Excerpt from Select Extracts From Chronicles And Records Relating To English Towns in The Middle Ages: Edited, With Introduction, Notes, And Glossary
It aims at giving specimen passages relating to English towns in the Middle Ages, culled on the one hand from representative chronicles, and on the other hand from typical municipal documents. The narrative extracts are all taken from the texts provided in the indispensable Rolls Series, and my thanks are due to the Master of the Rolls for his kind permission to use them.
As in the other volumes of this Series, the Notes are reduced to the minimum, while the Glossary is limited to words not given in the ordinary Latin dictionary and to words used in other than their ordinary senses. I am much indebted to my friend and colleague, Dr. H. J. White, for his kind revision of the Notes and Glossary.
