After the success of the professional version Maple V is now available as a student version - a basic program for symbolic and numerical computation. Students in the natural sciences, engineering, mathematics and computer science will welcome this new tool for solving problems from linear algebra to differential equations. The program also offers powerful two- and three-dimensional graphics for visualisation of mathematical models. The student version has the same functionality as the professional version, but it is limited to solving problems of a smaller size, appropriate for learning and exploration. The DOS/Windows version which allows for a choice between DOS only and Windows includes an intuitive command-line interface with helpful menues and an interactive help browser. The student version package includes the book "First Leaves: A Tutorial Introduction to Maple V" by Char et al. This is an excellent guide to Maple V, which is suitable for beginners. Hardware requirements for the DOS/Windows version: 80386 or 80486 (coprocessor optional but recommended), 3 MB (DOS), 4 MB (Windows) extended memory, 10 MB disk space, MS- or PC-DOS 5.0 or higher, MS Windows 3.1. A Macintosh version will soon be available.
