This work describes the equipment, methods, and techniques used for measurement of soil pressure for monitoring soil-structure interaction. It is based on results of of large-scale tests and field experiments that have been conducted by Dr. Lazebnik and his colleagues over a 50 year period. The book incorporates original data and emphasizes a practical approach to developing, calibrating, and installing soil pressure measuring devices for monitoring soil-structure interaction. It offers numerous practical examples where these devices of miscellaneous designs can be used. Some of the highlights in the book include: soil pressure measuring methods and instruments; calibration apparatuses and methods of calibration of soil pressure cells; errors in measuring of soil pressures at soil-structure interface and in a soil mass; examples of large-scale and field investigation of soil-structure interaction; lateral soil pressures against "stiff" and "flexible" retaining structures.
