Recent failures of diplomatic offers for an extended Iran-EU cooperation and projected US arms sales to Iran’s neighbours suggest an imminent escalation of the issue, which has been simmering since first reports about Iranian nuclear fuel-enrichment activities emerged in 2002.

Joachim Krause is Professor of Political Science at the University of Kiel, and member of the Executive Board of the Aspen Institute, Germany. He has published extensively on nuclear non-proliferation policy and has edited several volumes in the field of strategic studies.
