Je ne me défendrai point d'avance du parti que j'ai pris de ne faire qu'un mot de chaque vers dans la transcription du sanscrit; le lecteur qui a entendu les Brammes réciter quel ques pièces de vers, sait que, dans la prononciation, chaque vers se débite comme un seul mot avec des intonations variées sur chaque voyelle, et une pose unique à la fin du vers je parle du vers valmicien. Ceux qui peuvent examiner les manuscrits du Shoùrdjyo et des neuf dixièmes des poèmes indiens, recon naîtront encore que le vers, dans ces ouvrages, ne fait qu'un seul et même mot en écriture. Cela, du reste, n'est pas parti enlier au sanscrit: on connaît d'anciens manuscrits hébreux, grecs et latins où l'on trouve cet usage en vigueur.
