The goal of neurobionics is to elaborate methods for the repair and substitution of impaired functions of the human nervous system. This volume contains a selection of papers from the 1st International Workshop on Neurobionics, held in Goslar, Germany, February-March 1992. The 20 contributions are arranged in six chapters: philosophical and mathematical prerequisites, evaluation of biological neural networks, theory of artificial neural networks, microelectronics for artificial neural networks, biotechnical interfaces, and clinical approaches for substitution of neurological deficits.
