9780470036082: Structural Analysis: Using Classical and Matrix Methods

Sinossi

Presenting an introduction to elementary structural analysis methods and principles, this book will help readers develop a thorough understanding of both the behavior of structural systems under load and the tools needed to analyze those systems. Throughout the chapters, they'll explore both statically determinate and statically indeterminate structures. And they'll find hands-on examples and problems that illustrate key concepts and give them opportunity to apply what they've learned.

Informazioni sull?autore

Jack C. McCormac is Alumni Distinguished Professor o CivilEngineering, Emeritus at Clemson University. He holds a BS in civilengineering from the Citadel, an MS in civil engineering fromMassachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Doctor of Letters fromClemson University. His contributions to engineering education andthe engineering profession have been recognized by many, includingthe American Society for Engineering Education, the AmericanInstitute of Steel Construction, and the American ConcreteInstitute. Professor McCormac was included in the InternationalWho's Who in Engineering, and was named by the EngineeringNews-Record as one of the top 125 engineers or architects in theworld in the last 125 years for his contributions to theconstruction industry. He was one of only two educators living inthe world today to receive this honor.

Professor McCormac belongs to the American Society of CivilEngineers and served as the principal civil engineering grader forthe National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying formany years.

Principles, methods, and professional tools you can buildon!

Jack McCormac presents elementary analysis methods andprinciples, as well as use of computational software, so you candevelop a thorough understanding of both the behavior of structuralsystems under load and the tools engineers use to analyze thosesystems. You'll explore both statically determinate and staticallyindeterminate structures, and gain valuable experience withprofessional software. Throughout the text, hands-on examples andproblems illustrate key concepts and give you the opportunity toapply what you've learned.

Highlights of the Fourth Edition

  • The load sections of Chapter 2 and 3 are revised to conform toSEI/ASCE 7-02 as well as to the 2003 International BuildingCode.
  • The matrix chapters (Chapters 22-25) are completely revisedand substantially expanded. Matrix notation and methods of equationsolving are used in many examples to facilitate solving theequations.
  • Includes many new homework problems. Many of the existinghomework problems are revised.
  • Covers classical methods such as influence lines,conjugate-beam analysis for deflections, and approximate methodsand slope deflection for statically indeterminate structures.
  • Features many illustrations graphically showing the principlesdiscussed as well as detailed examples with clear explanations ofthe procedures.
  • The accompanying website includes the educational version ofSAP2000 structural analysis software as well as theauthor-developed SABLE (Structural Analysis and Behavior forLearning Engineering) Software.
