MARTIN A. SCHULMAN is an engineer with Cisco Systems, the leading supplier of telecommunications equipment for the Internet. He also teaches graduate courses in data communications and computer networking at Loyola College in Baltimore, MD.

RICK SMITH is president of Internet Business Development, Inc., a consulting and research firm based in Raleigh, NC. He helped launch Interpath, an Internet Service Provider, in 1993 and managed the company for two years before becoming a consultant.
