Provides a unified overview of wave packets. Describes important advances in the ability to design and create particular quantum target states, to detect and measure the properties of interest displayed by these states, and to manipulate the properties of these states. Opening chapters illustrate fundamentals using systems drawn from atomic physics. Later chapters introduce extensions and applications to more complex, primarily molecular and mesoscopic, systems. Concluding chapters discuss and evaluate progress toward the development of methods to manipulate matter at the quantum level.
