Charles Elachi ? 1987 1st Edition A beautiful 1987 first-edition hardcover copy of Introduction to the Physics and Techniques of Remote Sensing by Charles Elachi, published by John Wiley & Sons as part of the Wiley Series in Remote Sensing and Image Processing. This substantial technical work provides a comprehensive introduction to the physics, techniques, and technology of remote sensing, including the interaction of electromagnetic waves with matter and remote-sensing methods spanning the electromagnetic spectrum from the ultraviolet through microwave regions. Applications include the study of Earth's surface and oceans, atmospheric sensing, radiative transfer, and planetary science. A particularly noteworthy aspect of the book is its author. Charles Elachi was a professor at Caltech and later served as Director of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory from 2001 to 2016. His career included major contributions to spaceborne imaging radar and planetary observation, making this early edition an interesting piece of the technical literature surrounding the development of modern remote sensing. The 1987 edition was subsequently revised and expanded in later editions, making this an especially interesting copy for collectors of the history of remote sensing, radar, aerospace engineering, and Earth-observation technology. A highly desirable copy for a technical library, particularly for anyone interested in remote sensing, radar, aerospace engineering, Earth observation, planetary science, or the history of NASA/JPL technology. An excellent example of an important early work in modern remote sensing, predating the substantially revised later editions. Condition: Near Fine. The hardcover book and interior are exceptionally well preserved, with clean pages and an attractive binding.
