The second volume of "Current Topics in AIDs" continues to apply the overall approach of Volume 1. Many books and journals are now devoted to the issues of AIDs and HIV. However, many attempt to either cover the whole field or focus on a particular subject area. The object of this series is to be selective, concentrating in some depth on issues that are ripe for intensive review across a wide range of disciplines. Indeed, the multidisciplinary nature of AIDs research and care demands that those involved be fully abreast of the current thinking in allied specialities. The overall philosophy of the coverage is that each review should be an extensive and non-parochial assessment of the "state of the art", shaped by personal perspective.
