Il est vrai que la popularité de nos écrivains, poètes et prosateurs, et l'importance de leurs oeuvres ont plus fait pour maintenir au loin le culte du français que n'aurait pu le faire n'importe quelle mesure prise par les chefs de ces gouverne ments. Aussi, en 1836, en Russie, Pierre Tchadaref mandait au poète Pouchkine Mon ami, je vous parlerai la langue de l'univers. Elle m'est plus familière que la nôtre. Et il lui écrivait en langue française, à leur vive joie réciproque.
