To the eye of man, such a convulsion would appear as a retro grade movement, but omnipotence makes it an essential step ii: the preparation of the earth's surface for the reception of man. But it is still long ages before man's introduction upon it. The fragments resulting from the late convulsions are floating upon the molten surface. By the action of the currents, they are drifted about and accumulated in masses. Here and there, their huge and rugged forms tower above the desolate plain. Like icebergs in an arctic sea.
