Excerpt from Stories of the Animal World: Arranged So as to Form a Systematic Introduction to Zoology
The Author also much wishes to awaken the attention of tutors, parents, and friends, to the vast importance of communicating knowledge by conversation. He is of opinion that this is too generally neglected; and is sorry that this is the case; as he is confident that it would be found an ample source of improvement and delight, both to the tutor and his pupil. It was the saying of a great statesman, ale that of every ten things he knew, he had learned eight of them in conference with his friends. A well-informed communicative individual might undertake to teach any language or science in this pleasing way; and almost without books or any effort that might be regarded as labour.
