Excerpt from Litterargeschichtliche Studien Über Euklid

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the life of Euclid and the history of his writings, offering new perspectives on the development of geometry. Despite the scarcity of direct information about Euclid, the author examines Greek sources and Arabic traditions to reconstruct the mathematician's life and work. The analysis reveals that the influential Arabic accounts of Euclid's life and writings are unreliable fabrications, highlighting the need for critical evaluation of sources. Furthermore, the author presents a comprehensive review of Euclid's works, distinguishing between genuine and spurious treatises attributed to him. By examining the evolution of the Elements and exploring lesser-known works like the Data, Phaenomena, and Optics, the book provides insights into the development of geometry from its origins to the Middle Ages. Ultimately, this work enhances our understanding of Euclid's contributions to mathematics and his lasting impact on Western thought.
