"Therefore , brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle," ( 2 Thessalonians 2:15). Throughout history, in every story, each hero has a quest and that quest begins with a want for better or just the hero being completely lost after something shaking has occurred. In the essence of it all, they find themselves. They find this greater, stronger person they never knew they were and when that happens they are faced with a new villain, worse than their first adversary, but the journey has molded and formed them to be strong enough to defeat this villain. If you think of your life, your wins and loses. They're not really losses, they are just pieces of training. When you win, you only smile when you have defeated the villain.
God must send us all on that very same journey that David had to go on. From zealous, to broken, to king. If you are going to rule someday, then God knows you have to be trained mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. You have to be controlled, not easily shaken by a tiny change in the tides. If a tide goes one way, your ship goes that way too, even if it means destruction. No. God doesn't want you to be a ruler like that. And if taking you through this cave, dragging you around this bend, forcing you to stare your fears in the face, then He will do it.
Along this quest, though He will be there and at times He might pretend to leave you just to see if you will be faithful. You will want to break. Want to split and do all the above but keep going because of your frustration, but there is always God still there reminding you of those who came before, who are still cheering for you when Satan is in your ear telling you to end it here and now, knowing that if he can get you to do that, you will be one less person he has to worry about.
