This Guide addresses the critical link of how the Public Realm - our streets and public spaces - can be designed inclusively, thereby matching the significant advances made in the last three decades regarding building and our transport infrastructure. The Guide is based on the direct experience of a practice (DBA) that has advised on many major UK public realm projects, not least the Olympic Village and Park in London and the London CrossRail project. The Guide is seen as an essential reference for designers and also for local authorities seeking a one-stop-shop document suitable as a reference when drafting their Supplementary Planning Documents in response to the requirement for Inclusive Design. The Guide draws on the established language of planners, architects, landscape architects, urban designers and highway engineers and applies an overlay of Inclusive Design principles and provides a framework for their application and evaluation.
