Trade paperback. Condizione: Very good. Format is approximately 5 inches by 7.75 inches. 319, [1] pages. Preface to the First Edition. Preface to the Second Edition. Map. The Witnesses. Sources. Index. Issued on the 400th anniversary of the Defeat of the Armada. Alexander Paul Charrier McKee OBE (25 July 1918 - 22 July 1992) was a British journalist, military historian, and diver who published nearly thirty books. McKee decided to concentrate on documentary authorship, publishing some 27 books during his life. In the Second World War, McKee served in the British Army. After the War he served with the British Army on the Rhine (BAOR). He wrote articles for the BAOR newspaper Polar Bear News and became a writer and producer for the British Forces Network in Germany. After demobilization, McKee became the editor of Conveyor magazine and wrote plays for BBC radio. The Spanish Armada was a Habsburg Spanish fleet of 130 ships that sailed from A Coruña in late May 1588, under the command of the Duke of Medina Sidonia, with the purpose of escorting an army from Flanders to invade England. The strategic aim was to overthrow Queen Elizabeth I and her establishment of Protestantism in England, with the expectation that this would put a stop to English interference in the Spanish Netherlands and to the harm caused to Spanish interests by English and Dutch privateering. The Armada chose not to attack the English fleet at Plymouth, then failed to establish a temporary anchorage in the Solent, after one Spanish ship had been captured by Sir Francis Drake in the English Channel. The Armada finally dropped anchor off Calais. While awaiting communications from the Duke of Parma's army, the Armada was scattered by an English fireship attack. In the ensuing Battle of Gravelines the Spanish fleet was damaged and forced to abandon its position. Second Edition revised with additional material [stated]. Codice articolo 76864
