Born in Sheridan, Wyo. in 1925, the author was adopted at age 9 days by Clay and Anna Nottingham who lived in Big Horn Wyo.Teased by other kids for being adopted, Nottingham gained a determination to try to excell. Excelling meant work, study, and play harder and be willing to take risks. As a result, he won a Bronze Star from the USMarine Corps on Iwo Jima, became a teacher and then a school administrator. This was followed by a doctorate from the University of Southern California and professorships at USC and the University of Idaho.
