FINALIST, WRITERS' LEAGUE OF TEXAS MANUSCRIPT CONTEST
When the author's college-age son lands a summer job writing for the budget travel guidebook Let's Go that takes him into one of the most unstable regions in the world, it is time for concern. But when she hears he is being held captive by an AK-47-wielding Bedouin, there is no question that she will set out to the Middle East to make sure her son is safe. The Wisdom Tree is a memoir of the author's travels with her son in Israel and the Palestinian territories, travels that shift her perception of her relationship with her son and completely upend her preconceptions about the geopolitical landscape. The Wisdom Tree is an endearing and eye-opening story told with compassion and honesty, recounting heartfelt moments and memorable experiences that will challenge readers to reexamine basic assumptions and inspire them to consider new outlooks.
