Minimalist Syntax is a collection of essays that analyze major syntactic processes in a variety of languages, all unified by their perspective from within the Minimalist Program. The chapters, written by leading researchers in the field, provide broad overviews of central syntactic processes and present original findings that illustrate how Minimalist syntax analysis can be successfully carried out. Topics discussed include raising, control, agreement, head movement, quantification, VP ellipsis, extraposition, and constituency.
The empirical consequences of the assumptions and theories used are stressed throughout the book and innovative analyses of these phenomena are proposed. Rich in scope and detail, Minimalist Syntax is a valuable resource for students and scholars as an entry to the most current concerns and debates in syntactic theory.
