It goes beyond the simple cloning of a gene to describe and evaluate the concepts and approaches that are currently pushing back the frontiers of eukaryotic molecular biology and forming the basis of a technological revolution. The book is in three parts. Part 1 outlines the structure and function of the genome and describes basic techniques in molecular biology. In Part 2 selected examples are used to illustrate the major areas of molecular biology that are progressing via gene transfer technology. Part 3 begins with a refresher chapter on recombinant DNA techniques and then goes on to describe what may be done with a cloned gene.
