It has been out of print since late 1993 and a new edition is long overdue as there are no up to date and comprehensive single volumes on the subject in print. Norman Simmonds is the editor of Principles of Crop Improvement, 2nd Edition, published by Wiley. Joseph Smartt, was a British geneticist with major contributions to the knowledge of crop evolution, especially of grain legumes.
