The aim of the book is to teach and prepare MRCP candidates for the examination by providing a basic grounding in the core subjects. The questions have been designed in the new style of integrated basic and clinical science. O'Callaghan's MRCP Part I - System Based Tutorial begins with an introductory chapter giving sound advice on how to approach revision and the examination itself. The main body of the text is a bank of MCQ's divided into chapters by subject specialty, eg: cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, with 20 stem questions per chapter. What gives this book an advantage over its competitors is that each group of questions has been carefully devised to give the reader maximal exposure to key topic areas. The questions also reflect the new shift of emphasis of the examination towards the basic sciences, and in particular, the correct answers are complemented by an explanatory paragraph, allowing the reader to gain a deeper understanding of the topics answered incorrectly without the need to refer to a textbook. This, together with its compact size, makes the book an ideal tool for quick revision sessions on the ward.
