'Sebastian' ist der vierte Band des 'Avignon-Quintetts' Autorenporträt : Lawrence Durrell wurde 1912 in Indien geboren. Der weitgereiste Romancier und Reiseschriftsteller arbeitete zunächst als Barpianist und Makler. Später wurde er Presseattache im diplomatischen Dienst in Ägypten, Rhodos, Zypern und Belgrad. Früh entdeckte er die mediterrane Welt, die zum Hintergrund seiner meisten Bücher wurde. 1990 starb Durrell in der Provence, wo er die letzten dreißig Jahre seines Lebens verbracht hatte.
