Therapist Janice Fuchs wrote this book as a guide to help her clients learn how to love themselves. The advice to "love yourself" is commonly given, and rightly so. But most people do not remember to treat themselves as kindly as they would treat others. They too easily become "the forgotten friend" as they strive to manage their commitments. On these pages, they will find practical, easy solutions to begin and sustain the practice of self love. Creating this loving relationship "within" helps people to rely less on their external relationships. When they learn they can reach for sustenance and kindness for themselves and by themselves people are better equipped to face the external world, which includes life's challenges--and joys.

Janice Fuchs is a licensed clinical social worker from Long Island, New York, with a Master's degree from Stony Brook University. She has spent the last 25 years providing psychotherapy to adults, children, teens, families, and couples around issues ranging from depression and anxiety to eating disorders and addictions. After many years of working to help people, Janice has seen that so many struggles come from an inability to clearly understand self-needs and feelings, and confusion over how to take care of self and still maintain healthy relationships and careers. In therapy sessions, she provides a supportive, non-judgmental environment for people to discover what they want and how to work on their self-image, communication skills, and self talk. In the last several years, Janice began to explore a wide range of spiritual and alternative methods to enhance both her own life and her practice. Those explorations led to this book. Along the way, she realized that the biggest block to peace and contentment stems from not giving enough attention to the relationship with self. Janice uses the concepts and techniques discussed in her book in her practice today. Though clients make changes in different ways and at different times, she believes her methods can help anyone at any time. Her goal is for more people to develop a loving relationship within themselves, which can translate to an amazing life. Janice is a mother of two teenage daughters – and two crazy dogs. She does her best to live what she teaches in the midst of the insanity that is life...
