The systematic list, the first comprehensive one since 1907, is designed to answer the innumerable questions on arrival and departure times of migrants, on recorded visits by rarities, or changes in numbers and distribution. In the earlier chapters, the county's various habitats and their bird populations are discussed and this concentrated look at a limited area gives an unusually sharp picture of the status and problems of bird life today, on how density and distribution are affected by the ever-faster rate of change resulting from man's activities. The Editor, Austen Dobbs, is County Recorder for Nottinghamshire birds, and recorder of the Trent Valley Bird Watchers. He has organised many species or area studies, of which some of the results have been published in societies' annual reports. Always interested in habitats, Austen Dobbs' chief fieldwork has been on density and his experience over twenty years has greatly enriched the information on how many birds are to be found here and there. Edited by Austen Dobbs for The Trent Valley Bird Watchers. Jacket has a little patchy edge/shelf wear, browning to reverse (white side), a few minor marks and a little staining to reverse (white side) where colour from boards has run a little. Black boards are very good with just a little pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine and a feint rub to front. The binding is tight. Page edges little tanned. Top of pages little dusty.
