Sinossi

This block looks at similar shapes and their role in defining trigonometric ratios and perspective drawing, in particular Vermeer's pictures. It explains the use of the sine and cosine formulas. It looks at surveying and the role of trigonometry and Pythagoras' theorem in calculating distances, bearings and velocities from map references and goes on to consider such calculations for a global journey: the first successful non-stop round the world balloon journey.
