9780749426125: Managing People: A Practical Guide For Line Managers

Sinossi

As line managers take on increasing responsibility for such personnel matters as recruitment, discipline, pay and training, Michael Armstrong takes on a topical issue in his new book, which focuses on what these managers need to learn about these areas and how they can be best applied in their work. The book will fill the gaps in all line managers' knowledge enabling them to deal more confidently and efficiently with the day-to-day personnel questions which arise and which, with personnel specialists now assuming the role of policy advisor, can no longer be passed on to colleagues. It covers performance management, the development and reward of employees, health and safety, and welfare matters. Discussion of the legal framework and ways of dealing with employment problems concludes the work. The approach adopted is direct: Michael Armstrong writes without recourse to jargon, explaining all the personnel terminology, and supplies plenty of practical examples, plus action points and checklists.
