"Lucky's book...makes me laugh again and again..."
--Bill Moyers, Public Affairs Television, Inc.

Bob Lucky, author of the widely acclaimed "Reflections" column in Spectrum magazine, provides a humorous, nostalgic collection of ten years worth of his own reflections on typical situations engineers encounter during their careers. Spiced with 20% new anecdotes and personal experiences, LUCKY STRIKES...AGAIN takes good-natured gibes at corporate bureaucrats while offering some not-so-subtle advice on ways to circumvent the bureaucracy and gives the bureaucrats some hints on when to look the other way.

Dalla quarta di copertina

"Robert Lucky s book proves that you don t have to be an engineer to have fun. He makes me laugh again and again and I m just a journalist! But he also makes me think."
Bill Moyers Public Affairs Television, Inc.

"Bob Lucky has very deftly put into words the feelings of thousands of engineers. Lucky Strikes Again treats with humor and compassion our daily struggles and triumphs."
Don Christiansen IEEE Spectrum

"[Lucky] directs his humorous barbs at such likely targets as the guilt of having fun at technical conferences, the inevitable failure of equipment demonstrations in the presence of Members of Upper Management ("the MUM effect"), and the lack of communication within organizations ("we all have the comforting illusion that there is someone up there who knows what is going on"). But he is also able to apply wit and a light touch to topics such as citizen advice to government, the public image of engineers, and the loss of U. S. preeminence in certain technologies."
Samuel C. Florman, Author

"Reading the essays is like enjoying the writings of a fine novelist 51;easy to understand, lots of character, subtle insights in which we all find our own experiences."
Derek Leebaert Georgetown University Author of the widely acclaimed "Reflections" column in Spectrum magazine

Dal risvolto di copertina interno

From the Foreword This is a serious book. Little of it is to be taken as absolute fact, yet there are strong allegorical messages. While you are reading it, you will enjoy it. Afterward, you will savor it. ? Bob?s topics are often surprising [and] they rarely fail to touch a sympathetic chord. He is acutely aware of the engineer?s dilemma: namely, that he or she is both a professional and a businessperson. [Bob] plays both sides of the street with aplomb and good humor. Through many of his essays, Bob helps his colleagues gain perspective on the rampant pace of technology. As established technologies are displaced, he eases the pain with nostalgic remembrances of the importance they once held in the lives of engineers.
