Java is an object-oriented, cross-platform development language for the Internet. This work discusses the Java architecture and environment, and the basics of the Java language. With a very practical focus, the book teaches readers how to build applications, and deals with Java security issues. It also examines the Java Development Kit (JDK) and the integrated development environment (IDE) known as JavaWorkshop. Advanced Java programming issues are also discussed, as are other third-party development environments and libraries coming from such vendors as Borland, Symantec and Microsoft. The accompanying CD contains all the example code from the book, compiled as running applications, as well as a library of reusable applets and third-party tools and utilities.
