The conferences are held only once every ten years, so there is always much to catch up on in the way of developments in the technology of materials, instrumentation, control and the basic science of grouting and deep mixing. Of particular note this time is new information on jet grouting and deep mixing technology, were used recently to restore levee and flood control structures in and around New Orleans. The keynote lectures cover cement-bentonite slurry systems; practice, perspectives, and trends in US rock grouting; the state of the practice of jet grouting; the design of deep mixing to support levees and floodwalls; evolution, field of application, and current practice of compensation grouting in Britain; and limited mobility grouting. Other areas considered include performance testing of deep mixing, tunneling, anchors and piles, environmental containment and treatment, and permeation grouting. The papers tend to be about ten pages long. The two volumes are paged continuously, and both have the combined author index, but there is no subject index.
