Southeast Asia has changed significantly since the end of the Vietnam War in 1975. Political and economic changes in the region have created new opportunities for cooperation and co-existence. Superpower competition in the region is no longer framed only as an East-West confrontation, but is increasingly acquiring a North-South flavor. This collection of original essays analyzes these and other trends in the region, and examines the close relationship between peace and development. This thoughtful work outlines the policy implications of these changes for regional and outside powers, and gives us new insights into the dynamics of social and economic change in Southeast Asia.
