Varela (cognitive psychophysiology, Hospital of the SalpTtriFre, Paris) addresses two problems challenging modern neurobiology and cognitive science. The first is understanding how people unconsciously execute habitual actions as a result of neurological and cognitive processes that are not formal actions of conscious judgement. The second it creating an ethics adequate to the present belief that there is no such thing as a transcendental self, a stable subject, or a soul. The three lectures were first published as Un Know-How per l'Etica by Edizione Laterza in 1992. They are not indexed. Paper edition (unseen) $12.95. Annotation c.
