This book describes the skills needed by anyone beginning work in a library or other information agency, whether at a professional or a paraprofessional level. Each chapter deals with a section of basic library work and with the knowledge and skills needed to perform it well. Where standard rules exist (i.e. filing rules), explanations are included. Mary Mortimer is teacher, librarian, author, and publisher. Director of DocMatrix Pty Limited, she was coordinator of the library studies program at the Canberra Institute of Technology in Canberra, Australia. She is co-author of CatSkill and US MARC Made Easy and author of Learn Descriptive Cataloging and Library Speak.
