Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. Harry N. Abrams Inc. New York, 1979, Hardcover, suspected 2nd printing but difficult to tell. Brilliant book, illustrated throughout by Brian Froud & Alan Lee, edited and designed by David Larkin. Book is Near Fine, but with a faint, small, touch of soiling on the bottom board edges, a small mark on the ffep and some marker lines under the inside jacket flap that cross out a previous owner's name; binding is tight, internally very clean and otherwise unmarked. Dust jacket is price clipped and the glassene covering it has some scrunching - not sure how to describe it - just some tiny veins of plastic that's see though; no other wear on the jacket - listed as Very Good plus. A nice copy overall of a book becoming more and more scarce. Codice articolo 002802

About the book (From the dust jacket) FAERIES explores a whole new world-a world of magic charged with the wild beauty of creatures who do not live by human rules. Theirs is a realm of wonder, exquisite delight, and enchanted danger. The two gifted artists who created this book. Alan Lee and Brian Froud, have made a study of the history of Faerie. Going to old sources, they examined the myths and legends, sorted fact from fancy, and, finally, illuminated their findings with over two hundred extraordinary drawings and full-color paintings. Rarely have research and artistry combined to produce so beautiful a result. All the faerie types are identified and pictured -water faeries, elves, pixies, leprechauns, tree faeries, dryads, and many others. Information on their favorite haunts, pastimes, and ways of life are drawn from Celtic stories, from the great oral tradition of the English language, and from writers and poets. Among these sources are the Ballad of Thomas the Rhymer, the great Irish poet W.B. Yeats's *The Song of Wandering Aengus," and Christina Rossetti's enchanting poem "Goblin Market." Here too are the stories of Oisin, The Humpback Lusmore, the Miser on the Faerie Gump and Lutey and the Mermaid- each traced to its origins, charmingly retold, and illustrated in the most sensitive fantasy style imaginable. Brian Froud is well known for his own book in Peacock Press's fantasy series and for scores of illustrations appearing else where; Alan Lee has painted dozens of cover illustrations for imaginative fiction. Both artists live in Devon, England---working together close by the brooding woods and high, windy tors of a land that seems perpetually steeped in the faerie spirit. FAERIES is a feast to revel in, to dip into for instant refreshment again and again. 185 illustrations, including 147 in full color. Codice articolo 20891
