The book includes new discussions of positivism, European philosophy of history, causation, statistical law, quantitative models, and post-empiricist social science, together with an updated literature guide that links chapters to widely anthologized papers. The author won the 1993 Lakatos Prize for "Mathematical Politics or Science of Diminishing Returns".

Informazioni sull'autore
Alexander Rosenberg professor of philosophy at the University of Georgia. He is author of many books and papers in the philosophy of social and biological sciences, including The Structure of Biological Science and Economics—Mathematical Politics or Science of Diminishing Returns (winner of the prestigious Lakatos Prize for 1993).
