This textbook introduces an area of algebraic geometry to students who have completed basic graduate courses in algebra and topology, and have some previous exposure to complex analysis and algebraic geometry. It covers standard material of toric varieties, including affine, projective, and abstract varieties; complete toric varieties and proper toric morphisms; the cohomology of sheaves on toric varieties; classical and intersection theories, and the topology. There is much more material than can be covered in one semester, and maybe in a full year, so instructors must choose according to the background and interests of students.
