Sinossi

Case-based discussion (CbD) is one of a number of assessment tools used in Workplace-Based Assessment (WPBA) to document the developmental progression of the specialty registrar in real situations in which they work. This official RCGP training aid written by leaders in the field of WPBA has been developed to give UK GP educators an understanding of the philosophy underpinning WPBA. This combined DVD and workbook package explains CbD in detail so that assessors will be able to develop the skills necessary to conduct confident, reliable and fair CbDs.After working through the entire contents, the assessor should be able to: prepare a CbD; conduct a CbD using exploratory oral techniques; gather evidence of competence; make a judgement about the competence of the specialty registrar; accurately record the CbD in the Extended Trainer's Record (ETR); deliver feedback to the specialty registrar; and, assist the speciality registrar in identifying and planning how to address future developmental needs. This DVD and workbook package is principally intended for UK GP assessors and educators (both general practice and hospital-based) although specialty registrars/Associates in Training will also find it of interest.
