Sinossi

Developed from a traditional from of Japanese massage, Shiatsu is based upon the same philosophy and medical theory as acupuncture and other oriental healing methods. Literally translated, Shi-atsu means "finger pressure," but practitioners also use their palms, knees, and forearms, and employ stretching techniques. Shiatsu: A Practical Introduction clearly explains the role of energy in Shiatsu, how to give a full body Shiatsu treatment, how to eat an energetically balanced diet to promote health, how to treat simple health problems with Shiatsu, methods of oriental diagnosis, common uses of acupressure points, and energy balancing exercises for yourself.

Informazioni sull?autore

After obtaining a degree in zoology and teaching biology in schools and colleges, Oliver Cowmeadow encountered Eastern philosophy and medicine in 1980. Immediately taken by the Oriental view of life and health, he intensively studied the Eastern philosophy and its application in Shiatsu and macrobiotics in London, Boston and on the Continent.

Oliver moved to the south west of England to begin practicing Shiatsu, and in 1985 founded the Devon School of Shiatsu, one of the first schools in the UK offering a full training in Shiatsu. He has played a significant part in the development of the Shiatsu Society, the professional body representing Shiatsu in the UK, especially in the areas of curriculum development and training standards. This is his fifth book on the Eastern approach to health.
