The unclipped dustwrapper similarly bright and clean, with minimal indeed wear. Printed entirely in black and white on high quality art paper, this is a stylish production, with photography mainly by David Smith and Graham Wrightson, book design by Graham Johnson for Lund Humphries. The RIBA Journal, on the book's first appearance, declared that ' This is a book for anyone who loves beauty. It is beautiful to handle, to read, to look at.' Published at a time when Graeme Shankland could suggest in his Foreword: 'Foreign Visitors do not yet see Liverpool as one of Britain's main tourist attractions; the next ten years can change this.' How perceptive! In July of 2019 it was estimated that the Visitor Economy of Liverpool's City Region was worth nearly £5 billion for the previous year, with nearly 70 million visitors. There are beautiful, but sad, photographs here of the Docks area in a state of decay, the fantastic architecture ready to be recognised and rescued, a process of regeneration which wasn't to begin until 1981.
