Sinossi
The world closed in on Jan Kubitzky on September 1914 his fourteenth birthday. Russian soldiers with guns and cannon were in the fields and similarly armed German soldiers were in the wood. Between them lay the small Polish Hamlet of Kopchovka, which had been Jan's home until the day when everything in it was destroyed. When the firing stopped, only he and Flox, Vladimir the shepherd's dog, were left alive.
