To assist nonspecialist instructors in teaching this hallmark of medieval French literature, this volume surveys available editions, a range of secondary studies, and electronic aids to teaching. It also features essays about the poem's contexts, avatars, language techniques, and characters, as well as about classroom strategies that experienced instructors have used. Some of the essays review the critical canon about the poem. The accompanying CD contains reconstructions of sung performances of the Song of Roland in Old French.
