Catalogue of an exhibition held at the Cincinnati Art Museum and other museums, starting February 22, to December 31, 1989. Firm binding, clean inside copy. OVERSIZE! Additional shipping charges may be requested for international & priority orders. *** A major exhibition featuring women's art of the seventies and eighties that shows, according to the curators, how women artists have moved into the "mainstream." This was a dubious premise because many feminist artists of the early women's movement wanted to revolutionize the world, rather than enter the mainstream. Instead of focusing on feminist artists, however, the exhibition showcased women artists who were, if not necessarily activists, then beneficiaries of feminism and the fight for equality. The exhibition underplayed the importance of conceptual, performance, and video art at the expense of more traditional, and commercially-viable, forms like painting and works on paper. Many of the artists in the exhibition were affiliated with the Pattern & Decoration movement of the late seventies and early eighties. Despite the rather uplifting title, the catalogue provides a wealth of data and statistics showing how women continued to be discriminated against by artworld institutions. Richly illustrated with colour plates. Size: 4to. Codice articolo 014013

Paperback. White and color-illustrated wraps with black lettering. 300 pp. Color and BW illustrations. "This book chronicles the work of several female artists from 1970 through 1985. It demonstrates how conditions have improved for women artists, as well as defining areas where improvement is still needed, such as one-person exhibitions. Backed by statistics, included for reference, this book is a great tool for further scholarship on female artists. Also includes many color photos of the magnificent work by these diverse artists, too numerous to list."--Amazon. Good+ light overall wear, light tanning to wraps. Codice articolo 172499
