The costs of substance abuse in the workplace are staggering. Workplace substance abuse adversely affects shareholder, the workforce, customers, and society. His work as a researcher, trainer, consultant, and practitioner in the area of substance abuse in the workplace spans a period of 30 years. This book is an extension of a series of articles appearing in Personnel Journal in 1989. In these articles, Smits and Pace initially outline their proactive approach to dealing with workplace substance abuse.
