The bewildering array of detail that gives form to these principles must, at some point, be memorized, organized, and applied. Sooner or later, in the classroom, for licensure, or in the clinic, the tests will begin to appear. Students of Oriental medicine share this woe with students of all other disciplines. However, unlike other students, Western students of Oriental medicine have not had the advantage of review texts and study guides to help them in their times of trial. For many, even a good compilation would have been a book to cherish. Though lamentable, this situation has been understandable. The Oriental medical profession in the West hadn't settled down long enough for an effective compilation to be undertaken, and publishers have been largely preoccupied with the steady stream of new works.
