Opening at the National Gallery, the exhibition was organized by the American Federation of Arts with the Mark Rothko Foundation, under the direction of Bonnie Clearwater, foundation curator. 86 works by Rothko were shown, almost all from the Mark Rothko Foundation and ranging in date from the late 1920s through to 1969.
