SIN LOI is a collection of vivid poetry, which was inspired by the Vietnam War. The Foreword states, "This book of poetry on Vietnam was pieced together by me from numerous recollections of the emotional experiences of the war shared by hundreds of veterans and family members of veterans that I have known and met. It is not a mirror of personal experience, but rather a shadow of the collective emotions of a generation trying to come to grips with the Vietnam War. There has been much media explotation of the Vietnam veteran with portrayals spanning the spectrum from drug crazed killer to cold, methodical Rambo types. The reality is that Vietnam veterans were just typical soldiers, marines, airmen and sailors that found what war has always been about--survival and not politics. Television brought the war into their family's living rooms--the first time that relatives and friends were brought to the battlefield. It is perhaps justified that our nation abandoned its support for the war, but it was abominable that the nation also abandoned the veterans and their families. So this book is not meant as an historical record of events, but is meant only as an emotional documentation of the human suffering that has alway been war's aftermath. It is a somewhat feeble attempt to understand why Vietnam veterans suffer from high suicide, divorce and alcoholism rates why a generation that served with honor should be so fragmented...
