Martin, who shared a great-grandmother with the writer Maria Edgeworth, was in contrast an Irish Unionist and a suffragette (vice-president of the Munster Women's Franchise League). Their work captures the Irish vernacular and the social mores of the time. With illustrations by E. Å'. Somerville.
