This is a collection of words not usually found in dictionaries which give colour, vigour and individuality to the spoken word in Cork. It explains their meaning, gives examples of usage, and traces their derivations from sources as predictable as the Irish language to such exotic and unexpected ones as Hindustani (Munster Fusiliers brought words from India) to Shelta (the language of the Gypsies), as well as English, French, Norse and Dutch. The phonetic form of each word is given. There are almost 400 entries, 1,000 derivations and 21 illustrations by the renowned Cork artist William Harrington. It is a must for all Cork people and for all who wish to understand the patois of Cork.
